Masterskip Wylde Swan is an educational project that has the mission to bring science alive and to create an inspiring and demanding environment for students of the age of 15-17 years.
In a six weeks sailing trip, from the port of Rotterdam to Tenerife, from Tenerife to the Caribbean and back to Rotterdam via the Azores, Dutch secondary school students can join for six weeks to become a crew member and follow education on board of the ship.
The trainees have a great time and learn a lot about science, life at sea and the subjects related to the journey. On board we provide excellent teachers to take care of the education and staff with expertise to make sure the learners get to know everything there is about sailing, life at sea and the ship. The students focus on science and they directly learn how this theoretical knowledge can be applied on a ship and its environments. For example, we teach them about navigation, forces causing the sailing, how to make fresh water from sea water, how to dissect a freshly caught tuna or about the volcanic history of the Caribbean. Furthermore the students learn how to cooperate and work in a challenging and active environment, and experience to maintain a positive and creative atmosphere on board.
